  • High maintenance problems exist with the mechanical dancing roller assy', which controls the feed of the film. Dancer springs, dancer rollers, and end stops are replaced regularly.
  • Numerous broken film alarms although quality stretch film is used. We are required to run a heavier gauge of film than anticipated to compensate.
  • Awkward and difficult film threading due to fact that the rollers do not rotate when powered down resulting in a greater risk of incorrectly threading the film.
  • Safety issues with a) Having to go inside the wrapping ring and standing on the conveyor to thread the film b) Employees leave the machine powered up to make it easier to manually thread the film
  • Prestretch levels are not what they are supposed to be. The prestretch rollers seem polished and do not grip the film for proper stretching. Many knife marks on the rubber rollers as operators continually have to cut the film from the roller as it wraps around the roller instead of feeding out to the load. supplied, as the carriage does not react fast enough. We hear a loud knocking noise during carriage rotation from the dancer roller slamming against the bumper limits as it tries to keep up with the demand.

After-market carriage cures Octopus Deficiencies

       When purchased, the Octopus stretch wrappers unique concept using rotary ring technology provided you with great potential for meeting your stretch wrapping needs. However, although the machine may have worked well so far, the original equipment prestretch film carriage provided with the machine may not be living up to the task. The disappointing performance of this carriage has been common with most Octopus owners. This shortcoming in the design limits your ability to maximize your efficiency and lower your unitizing cost.

       Owners of the Octopus rotary ring style stretch wrapper will be relieved to be informed of a breakthrough after-market film delivery system now available to improve the current performance of your packaging line. The revolutionary No-Thread retrofit carriage has been designed specifically

to resolve the deficiencies of the standard carriage from Muller. Some of the features of our new retrofit carriage for your Octopus include:

  • "Automatic threading of the stretch film.
  • Elimination of dancer arm for film control
  • Back door access for film changes for safety.

Features & Benefits of the No Thread Retro-fit Film Carriage

In providing this retrofit to the Muller Octopus we have added many features and benefits not available from the original Muller unit, which enable the stretch wrapper to increase production and drastically reduce maintenance downtime while providing a much safer and more responsive film carriage. These features include:


  • No need for threading instructions and diagrams here. The No Thread film carriage design allows for the fastest and safest roll change in the industry. Simply open the carriage gates, lay the film on the gate, and close the gate! IT'S THAT SIMPLE!
  • The original carriage required that you put your employee's fingers in the most dangerous assembly of the machine. The No Thread Retrofit eliminates this work related accident hazard and the insurance and man-hour costs associated with it.
  • The carriage gate is located on the backside of the carriage allowing the operator to thread the film without having to enter the wrapping ring. This also prevents the operator from having to stand on the conveyor and face the front of the carriage


  • The Strain gauge film feed system works by measuring the changing pressure applied by the film as it passes by the fixed roller that house the gauges. This signal is used to input to the carriage film feed motor to speed up and slow down the carriage.
  • As the electronic strain gauges precisely measure the film feed required, the need for the complete mechanical dancer roller assembly is eliminated. By eliminating the many springs and moving parts of the dancer assembly you drastically reduce the many maintenance issues associated with the Octopus carriage.


  • The No-Thread carriages' instant response system allows for improved ability to respond and maintain a constant film force, along with the ability to "dial in" a lower film tension. The force that was necessary to displace the dancer roller and spring assembly on the old carriage locked in an inherent minimum film tension while radically limiting the responsiveness of the system, as the dancer needed to be heavy to survive the pounding. With the new No-Thread film carriage, the number of annoying broken film alarms will be reduced due to its improved ability to provide film when it is needed.


  • The No Thread Carriage provides an improved film path around the prestretch rollers while stretching which ensures a more consistent prestretch of the film. The old carriage tended to allow the film to slip past the prestretch rollers instead of gripping the rollers, which caused an inconsistent stretching of the film. More over the transition from slipping to gripping on the rollers shocked the film into breaking and caused the prestretch rollers to wear prematurely. This would polish the rollers and increase the tendency for the film to slip, effectively creating a vicious circle.
