STRAIN GAUGE FILM FEED SYSTEM
Strain gauge film feed system works by measuring
the changing pressure applied by the film as it
passes by the fixed roller that house the gauges.
This signal is used to input to the carriage film
feed motor to speed up and slow down the carriage.

film feed required, the need for the complete
mechanical dancer roller assembly is eliminated. By eliminating the many springs and moving parts
of the dancer assembly you drastically reduce the
many maintenance issues associated with the Octopus
No-Thread carriages' instant response system allows
for improved ability to respond and maintain a constant
film force, along with the ability to "dial
in" a lower film tension. The force that was
necessary to displace the dancer roller and spring
assembly on the old carriage locked in an inherent
minimum film tension while radically limiting the
responsiveness of the system, as the dancer needed
to be heavy to survive the pounding. With the new
No-Thread film carriage, the number of annoying
broken film alarms will be reduced due to its
improved ability to provide film when it is needed.
No Thread Carriage provides an improved film path
around the prestretch rollers while stretching which
ensures a more consistent prestretch of the film.
The old carriage tended to allow the film to slip
past the prestretch rollers instead of gripping
the rollers, which caused an inconsistent stretching
of the film. More over the transition from slipping
to gripping on the rollers shocked the film into
breaking and caused the prestretch rollers to wear
prematurely. This would polish the rollers and increase
the tendency for the film to slip, effectively creating
a vicious circle.
