Cross Country Move Requires Major Configuration Redesign |
|||
When investing in wrapping technology, it is essential for a machine to function according to the customers’ specifications. Making customizations and option choices are essential when ordering a new machine, however, many customers obtain their machines by other means and require modifications. Earlier this year Effem Foods contacted CAPS with a unique and challenging service request. In 1999 a Wulftec WCRT-200 fully automatic pallet wrapper was designed for a Kal-Kan location in Texas. With the Texas plant closing in 2002 the system was transferred to Kal-Kans’ sister company, Effem Foods in Bolton, Ontario. Once the WCRT-200 arrived at the Ontario plant it was obvious it could not be used in its original configuration. Competitive suppliers decided the equipment could not be modified and quoted a whole new automatic stretch wrap system. CAPS was able to provide a detailed quote as to what modifications were required and the exact cost associated with them. Upon inspection CAPS determined that many assemblies needed to be replaced with new assemblies and components required for peak performance. Key components were also adapted according to the requirements. Working from the floor layout of the plant and Effems specifications, CAPS designed a new plan for the stretch wrap machine.
Once the modifications were complete and the machine was running, Effems personnel inspected the upgraded stretch wrapping system and put the stretch wrapper through a successful acceptance test. The successful transformation of the wrapping equipment allowed Effem to meet its high speed wrapping requirements at the fraction of the cost for a new system. This was made possible by the stretch wrap machinery expertise provided by CAPS.
